What inspired you to launch your own website?
Richard Branson! Have always wanted to have my own Events Management company. We invited 6 world renowned speakers including Branson to an event in Abu-Dhabi and I was inspired after that event to start my company in Sydney. I want to be the next Branson!
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Launched in September 2006, www.aperfectevent4u.com.au
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I listed out about 10-12 different names, put them on an excel sheet, sent it to family and friends and asked them to vote for their number 1, then 2, then 3 and thats how that name got selected.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
It has very many different things of interest, Voting polls, newsletter articles, competitions, special offers, supplier specials, various events coordinated all over the world. We have everything under one roof, so we make it simple for couples to shop with us
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To be the best in Australia and then to launch it Internationally!
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Full time in the business, very dedicated and passionate about this business. Have managed to get it to the top of the major search engines at no cost to me
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would invest it in Marketing my products, I would invest in more stock, open up stores interstate, employ people.....and best of all, one thing that have always wanted to do,donate a certain proportion to the kids in Kenya
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, I have a fantastic and professional Website designer whom I would give the role of managing my website for me. And I would also hire additional people to cope with the demand
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Am a Chartered accountant, so have managed to keep all costs undercontrol and have been very wise before leaping and making financial decisions
What has been your biggest challenge?
My website has had 200,000 hits in the month of Oct and it keeps on growing, and about 2000 visitors every month, for a small business, this is pretty good. Biggest challenge, how do I convert these visitors into Sales?
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
SEO (did this myself) never had the experience before, never done web design, just attended workshops, took notes and took action, one step at a time and now am at the top! Email marketing has been the second best way of getting sales.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
There is alot of work that needs to be done behind the website, SEO been one of them,updating the pages continuously,writing into the HTML codes(learnt this myself),putting up testimonials, managing the Events Gallery, running competitions, writing articles for subscribers, maintaining the database, running the polls, putting up supplier links, submitting site to search engines, all done myself
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Its been only about a year now, I really LOVE my website and my company, it potrays a very professional image, this is what I wanted and there is no stopping me, I know I will be successful and success only comes to those who are dedicated, who are positive and have a passion for what they do! I dreamt of my website been at the top and today it is there, I dreamt that I would win an Award and today I have been selected as a Finalist in the Events Industry. There is nothing that will stop me now.
If I had someone who had a vested interest in my business and helped me grow, would I take it?
I would jump at any opportunity that would make my business be the best in the Industry and to be amongst the known names like Coke, or Oprah,etc
